Developing an enduring engagement with stakeholders to understand their needs and provide them with the information and resources to make informed decisions that support marine biodiversity conservation in the broadest sense will be a critical success factor for the Hub. Equally important will be working with managers to develop scientific approaches that increase their capacity to make complicated decisions on managing marine biodiversity in a multiple use environment. UTas Profs Colin Buxton and Prof Keith Sainsbury will also be engaged in these areas. Stakeholder EngagementMBH_Stakeholder_Engagement_v4.doc This Program also includes Education, Training and Capacity Building and these areas will be led by Prof Richard Coleman, Head of the Quantitative Marine Science (QMS) PhD program. This program was established in March 2004, as a joint collaboration between CSIRO and the University of Tasmania to train the next generation of marine scientists across interdisciplinary areas of fisheries, oceanography, biogeochemistry, marine ecosystems and environmental conservation and management. Students within the QMS program have access to resources of both institutions and their supervision team consists of scientists from both institutions. The Hub has a number of scholarships available for PhD students fitting within the QMS framework and being expanded to include supervision from scientists within other partners’ agencies.
